Bees Edge Loons in Game Two

(Burlington, IA) The Burlington Bees scored three runs in the first three innings on their way to a 3-2 win over the Great Lakes Loons, on Thursday night, at Community Field.

Kody Eaves led off the first inning with a walk and then was moved to third, thanks to a single by Mike Fish. Eric Aguilera gave the Bees the lead with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Eaves, putting the Bees on top 1-0.

The Loons loaded the bases in the top of the second innings. Iowa native Spencer Navin singled to right, scoring Josmar Cordero, tying the game at one. With the bases still loaded, the Bees were able to turn two to escape with no further damage.

Back-to-back doubles gave the Bees the lead back in the second. After a Ryan Dalton leadoff double, Ranyelmy Mendoza doubled down the left field line, scoring Dalton, giving the Bees a 2-1 lead.

After the Loons tied the game in the top of the third, Eric Aguilera put the Bees back on top again, this time with a sacrifice fly scoring Angel Rosa, making it a 3-2 game in the third.

Both bullpens settled things down and traded off scoreless innings. Ben Carlson came on for the four out save and got the final out of the eighth.

The Loons put runners at second and third with two outs but Ben Carlson (9) was able to get Jesmuel Valentin to fly out to center, securing the 3-2 win over the Loons.

Reliever Brian Loconsole (3-3) earned the win for the Bees and Brandon Martinez (1-6) was charged with the loss.

The Burlington Bees (55-46) and the Great Lakes Loons (50-52) finish their three game series, Friday night at 6:30 PM. Garrett Nuss makes the start for the Bees against Scott Barlow for the Loons.
