Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Lancaster, PA. - July 24, 2014) - The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 4-0 on Thursday evening at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Bridgeport scored in the top of the first inning on first baseman Luis Lopez's two out, two-run single to take an early 2-0 lead. The 'Fish extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning as new signing Fred Lewis hit his first home run as a member of the Bridgeport Bluefish. Lewis, who came into the game to replace Casper Wells in left field in the bottom of the third inning, hit the home run in his first at-bat with the team after being acquired from Lancaster before the game on Thursday. Bridgeport scored their fourth and final run of the night in the fifth inning on center fielder James Simmons's RBI single, scoring second baseman Juan Martinez who led off the inning with a single.

That was all the offense that Bridgeport's starting pitcher D.J. Mitchell (6-6) would need, as Mitchell tossed eight scoreless innings and allowed just six hits and one walk while striking out six batters in the win. Lancaster's starter Chris Schwinden (9-2) took the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits in seven innings pitched.

Bridgeport will play game two of their three-game series against Lancaster on Friday, July 25th, with first pitch at 7:00pm. Bridgeport return to The Ballpark at Harbor Yard to begin a four-game series against the Long Island Ducks with a doubleheader on Sunday, July 27th, with game one scheduled for 1:05pm and game two scheduled for 6:05pm.
