-SPIKES START SERIES WITH AUBURN TONIGHT: The State College Spikes hold a seven-game lead over Williamsport in the New York-Penn League Pinckney Division as they once again face division opposition tonight when the Auburn Doubledays come to Medlar Field at Lubrano Park for the first game of a three-game set. Tonight marks the first meeting between the two teams in State College. The Spikes swept a pair of games from the Doubledays at Falcon Park in Auburn from July 7-8. State College is 40-42 all-time against Auburn, and the two clubs have split 40 all-time meetings at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

-LAST GAME: Alex De Leon's sixth home run of the year started a State College Spikes surge, and the Spikes turned a 3-0 deficit into a 5-3 win over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers on Wednesday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

De Leon's solo shot in the sixth inning put the Spikes on the board for the first time. State College then scored another run in the frame when Nick Thompson reached base on an error, new Spike Kenny Peoples-Walls doubled, and Thompson crossed the plate on a wild pitch.

The Spikes then scored three times in the eighth, all with two outs, to take the lead for good. Brian O'Keefe's ground-rule double to left field scored Jake Stone to tie the game, and one batter later, Ronnierd Garcia brought in a pair of runs with a single to cap the scoring.

State College reliever Anderson Gerdel picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits while recording a strikeout. Nick Lomascolo pitched a perfect ninth inning, including one strikeout, for the save.

-ANDERSON LOOKS FOR ANOTHER WIN TONIGHT: Right-hander Will Anderson, who has won each of his last four starts, gets the ball again this evening for State College. Anderson has not gone less than 5 2/3 innings since June 24, and he has posted three quality starts (six innings or more with three earned runs or less) during that stretch. Last time out, Anderson allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk while striking out four over six innings. The Cal State-Monterey Bay product his making his seventh start of the year tonight, and six of them have come at home.

-BOURQUE STARTS FOR DOUBLEDAYS: Right-hander James Bourque makes the start for Auburn tonight. Bourque, the Nationals 14th-round draft choice this year out of the University of Michigan, has made four starts for the Doubledays. The Ann Arbor, MI native went a career-long five scoreless innings against Connecticut for his first pro win on July 11. Last time out, Bourque gave up six runs, but only one earned, on eight hits and a hit batsman over 4 1/3 innings to take the loss against Hudson Valley. Three of Bourque's four starts so far have been on the road.

-WICK PROMOTED TO PEORIA : The St. Louis Cardinals announced yesterday that Rowan Wick, the Spikes' single-season home run record holder, earned promotion to the Single-A Peoria Chiefs. Wick made an impact right away, drilling a three-run homer in the ninth that helped propel the Chiefs to a five-run frame that sent the game to extra innings. The slugger took just 19 games to break the previous Spikes single-season home run record of 10, set by David Washington just last year. The Cardinals' 2012 ninth-round draft choice currently leads the New York-Penn League with 14 homers, and also tops the league in runs batted in with 38. The North Vancouver, BC native is also second in the NYPL with a .378 batting average. Wick set a franchise record by reaching base in each of the last 26 games he played for the Spikes.

-SPIKE MARKS: Jake Stone extended his on-base streak to 20 consecutive games last night with a walk in the eighth-inning. Stone's string is the longest active streak in the NYPL...State College stopped Mahoning Valley's five-game winning streak with last night's victory...Four Spikes pitchers - Jacob Booden, Jeff Rauh, Kyle Grana and Nick Lomascolo - are among the top five in the NYPL in appearances this season...Grana's 34 strikeouts are tied for fourth-most in the league, and his 13.91 strikeouts per nine innings are second-most among NYPL relievers
