July 23, 2014 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Eugene Emeralds News Release

EUGENE, OR - Six players will represent the Eugene Emeralds at the 2014 Northwest League All-Star Game, which will be hosted by the Eugene Emeralds on August 5th, 2014 at PK Park.

Infielders Marcus Davis, Franchy Cordero, Jalen Goree, and Chase Jensen will team up with Ems relievers Bryan Verbitsky and Franchy Cordero to represent the Emeralds as All-Stars from the NWL's South Division (Eugene, Salem-Keizer, Hillsboro, and Boise). For the second consecutive season, the South Division All-Stars will face off against the All-Stars from the North Division (Everett, Spokane, Tri-City, and Vancouver).

Marcus Davis, in his second professional season, is in the middle of perhaps the most impressive offensive season in the entire Northwest. The former Florida State Seminole boasts eye-popping numbers, including a .333 batting average, 7 home runs, 23 RBIs, a .436 on-base percentage, and a 1.024 OPS.

Franchy Cordero, in his third professional season, has shown a rare combination of speed and power at the plate. The Dominican Republic native, voted to the All-Star Game as a designated hitter, boasts a .273 batting average with 5 home runs, 3 triples, and 5 stolen bases on the season.

Jalen Goree, in his third professional season, has been a consistent performer at the plate with some surprising pop, including 2 home runs and 13 RBIs on the season. The 20-year old from Brent, Alabama has already notched multiple walk-off hits in 2014.

Chase Jensen, in his second professional season, received the All-Star nod after posting a .290 batting average to go along with two home runs on the season. Perhaps his most important contribution to the Emeralds has been in the field, having spent time at third base, second base, and shortstop.

Bryan Verbitsky, in his second professional season, has dominated the Northwest upon returning to the bullpen after his first pro season (also with the Emeralds). The Ems closer has posted a stellar 1.54 ERA over 17.1 innings while striking out 25 opposing batters.

Aaron Cressley, in his first professional season, has been one of the biggest surprises in a bullpen full of quality arms. The Pennsylvania native has tossed 17.2 innings on the season while posting an ERA of 0.49 thus far in 2014.

Both Marcus Davis and Franchy Cordero have been tabbed as starters, with Davis starting at first base while Cordero will get the start as a designated hitter. With the Emeralds set to host the 2014 NWL All-Star Game, fans will have a chance to see their Ems play on their home turf against the best of the best in the entire Northwest.
