Idaho Stampede Announce New Stampede Spirit Dance Team Director and Dance Team Auditions

Boise, Idaho, July 23, 2014 - Stampede Spirit Dance Team auditions for the 2014-15 season will start Friday August 29, 2014 with a 6 p.m. registration at Axiom Fitness at 7316 West Fairview, Boise, ID 83704. Tryouts will last for two days.

Dancers will learn a short routine Friday at 7 p.m. and perform that routine the next day, Saturday, August 30, 2014. Judges will evaluate dance technique, showmanship, appearance and physical fitness. Saturday auditions will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Axiom Fitness Fairview. The tryouts will conclude with interviews on Tuesday, Sep. 2. No personnel decisions will be made until after interviews.

Applicants must pay a non-refundable application fee of $15.00 before tryouts ($20.00 on the day of tryouts). All dancers need to provide a current photograph of themselves along with their resume. Samantha Buckmier has been named Director of the Idaho Stampede Spirit Dance Team, the organization announced today. She becomes the fifth director in the organization's history following Jessica Rowland who retired at the end of last season.

"I'm thrilled to lead a dance team with such a long history of success and professionalism," Buckmier said. "I'm very excited to take the Stampede's dance team to the next level and build a team that our community will be proud to watch and support."

Buckmier danced for Off Center Dance Company and the Idaho Stampede during the 2013-14 Season. She previously attended Western Oregon University earning her BS in Forensic Chemistry with a minor in Dance studying ballet, jazz, hip-hop, modern and aerial dance. She has traveled the world including Mexico and China dancing with Rainbow Dance Theatre for 5 years, was an apprentice with A-Wol aerial dance company for 2 years, and danced for Subrosa Dance Collectives and Pure Dance Company for one year in Portland. She continues to teach at Thunderbird Dance Camp every summer for the last nine years teaching over sixteen hundred middle and high school students each year.

"We are extremely proud to welcome Sam to the Stampede family," said Idaho Stampede President Steve Brandes. "She has the skills and leadership to develop a dance team that will be at the same caliber of NBA dance teams."
