Indy Fuel News Release
INDIANAPOLIS - A 6'2", 200 lb., left-handed shooter and self-described "power forward," Markham, Ontario native Taylor Law agreed to terms with the Indy Fuel for the 2014-15 ECHL season, the team announced Wednesday. 2014-15 marks Law's first full campaign in the ECHL following a four-year NCAA Division 1 career at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.
"Taylor is a big, skilled forward with the ability to score big goals in big situations," said Fuel Head Coach and Vice President of Hockey Operations Scott Hillman on Wednesday. "He'll learn to use his size effectively to compete at the pro level as he makes his transition from college hockey...He's a welcome addition to our young group."
In 115 combined games played for Canisius from 2010 to 2014, Law tallied 26 goals and 49 total points for the Golden Griffins, along with 70 career penalty minutes. In his only professional playing experience to date, Law scored a pair of goals in four appearances for the ECHL's Elmira Jackals at the end of the 2013-14 season, following the conclusion of his collegiate career.
"It feels good to be a part of the Fuel organization for next year," said Law Wednesday. "I'm excited to be on board." Despite his limited experience in professional hockey, Law believes his brief stint in Elmira provided him a headstart in understanding the pro game. "I think it was big for me to get a taste of the ECHL last year," explained Law. "The game is certainly faster in the pros and to be able to make that adjustment immediately will be huge for me."
Prior to his collegiate career, Law, 24, split parts of three seasons at the junior level in Canada's OPJHL and OJHL with the Stouffville Spirit, Durham Fury and Whitby Fury from 2007 to 2010. Law capped his junior career with a productive campaign in 2009-10, posting 27 goals and 65 points in 49 games played for Whitby with 46 penalty minutes and a plus-ten rating.
In 2014-15, the Indy Fuel, the proud "AA" affiliate of the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks and AHL's Rockford IceHogs, drop the puck on their first season in the ECHL. Season ticket packages for the Fuel's inaugural campaign are available now starting at just under $12 per game!
