Arizona United Signs Sam Garza

PEORIA, Ariz. (Wednesday, July 23, 2014) - Arizona United Soccer Club today announced that the club has signed forward Sam Garza, pending USL PRO and USSF approval.

"Sam is a dynamic, explosive attacking player who will bring a good energy to our group," said Arizona United Soccer Club head coach Michael Dellorusso.

Garza, a former Generation Adidas forward, was drafted by the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer with the sixth overall pick in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. The 24-year-old Garza appeared in 12 matches for San Jose during his three-year stint at the Bay Area club and appeared in two matches for the San Antonio Scorpions of the North American Soccer League while on loan in 2014.

Hailing from Carrollton, Texas, Garza played collegiately at the University of Denver in 2008 and scored four goals with four assists in 19 appearances before transferring to the University of California Santa Barbara. At UCSB, he scored 17 goals and recorded 10 assists in 44 appearances from 2010-11. Garza has represented the United States at the U-20 level and helped the squad qualify for the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In 2008, he appeared in seven qualifying matches and scored a goal against Canada.
