Evansville Otters News Release

(CRESTWOOD, ILLINOIS) - The Evansville Otters (33-22) lost 6-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the Windy City Thunderbolts.

Eyeing their first three-game sweep of the season, the Otters were limited to just six hits as Thunderbolts right-hander Daniel Cropper threw a complete game in the win.

After a pair of scoreless innings, Evansville plated the first run against Cropper in the third. Shortstop Cory Urquhart reached on a one-out bunt single, moved to second on a single from outfielder John Schultz and scored on an RBI single from All-star infielder Josh Allen.

The lead didn't last long, however, as Windy City scored four runs in the bottom of the third. Facing Rockport, Indiana native Blake Monar, the Thunderbolts would build a two-out rally to tie the game on a Kyle Robinson RBI double and go ahead on a Ryan Soares single to left field. Evan Button and Max White both added RBI singles later in the inning for the 4-1 edge.

Monar retired all three batters he faced in the next inning but yielded two more runs in the fifth. Soares struck again with an RBI single and White tacked on a sacrifice fly for the 6-1 lead.

Evansville collected a hit in the seventh and eighth innings respectively but Cropper retired the final four Otters batters of the game for the series-ending victory.

Monar (1-3) takes the loss in the game, yielding six runs in 5.0 innings.

The Otters will travel to Sauget, Illinois and begin a three-game series against the Gateway Grizzlies on Thursday night. Evansville will have the right-hander Preston Olson (3-3, 2.67 ERA) throwing against Gateway righty Aaron Newcomb (8-2, 4.67 ERA).

First pitch on Thursday is set for 7:05 pm CDT at GCS Ballpark.

The game will be broadcast live on WUEV 91.5 FM. Play by play announcer Mike Radomski will have the call beginning at 6:45 pm CDT.
