Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew is set to host Barclays Premier League side Crystal Palace FC in an international friendly at Crew Stadium tonight at 7:30 p.m. ET. TheCrew.com is live-streaming the contest, with Neil Sika and Ryan Schwepfinger on the call.
The tilt marks the first-ever meeting between Crystal Palace FC and the Columbus Crew. The Crew is 10-5-2 all-time in international exhibitions and tonight is set to be the 12th international friendly held at Crew Stadium. The first international opponent to take on the Black & Gold at Crew Stadium was Newcastle United as the two teams played to a 2-2 draw on July 26, 2000 in front of 18,212 fans.
Tonight's match is the tenth international friendly against English opponents. After a 2-1 win over Stoke City at Crew Stadium in 2012, the Crew fell last year by a final score of 2-1 in an exhibition against Wigan Athletic, moving the team's record to 3-4-2 against English opposition.
The contest also completes a stretch of three home matches in eight days. The Black & Gold then travel to New England to resume League play against the Revolution on Saturday, July 26 (7:30 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
