Chihuahuas Dispatched in 13

July 23, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
El Paso Chihuahuas News Release

Shane Peterson's bases loaded infield single with two outs in the top of the 13th inning provided the decisive run in Sacramento's 3-2 win over the El Paso Chihuahuas at Southwest University Park Tuesday night. The Chihuahuas trailed by a run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth before Jason Lane, Wednesday's starting pitcher, came through with a pinch-hit single to tie the game.

El Paso starter Matt Wisler allowed just one run in seven innings of work, while striking out seven in the no-decision. Oakland's Drew Pomeranz also pitched well in his injury rehab start, holding the Chihuahuas to one run in six innings. El Paso's lineup included three San Diego Padres infielders on injury rehab, with Yonder Alonso starting at first base, Jedd Gyorko at second base and Everth Cabrera at shortstop. The three combined to turn a 4-6-3 double play in the fourth inning.

There were only three walks between the two teams in the 13-inning contest. The Chihuahuas have lost five straight games for the first time in team history. There was a one hour and 14 minute rain delay before the first pitch was thrown.
