Great Falls Voyagers News Release

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (July 22, 2014) - The Great Falls Voyagers knocked off the Idaho Falls Chukars 6-3 Tuesday night at Melaleuca Field, earning them a 4-3 mark on their seven-game road trip.

Tied at two apiece in the fifth, the Voyagers (21-14) got to Chukar reliever Torey Deshazier (3-1) with two outs. Dillon Haupt plated a run with an opposite field single, then Patrick Palmeiro launched his second homer of the series, a two-run shot, to put Great Falls in front 5-2.

Idaho Falls (18-17) managed to pull one back in the sixth against reliever Anthony Santiago (2-1), but were otherwise stymied by the Voyager bullpen. Santiago put up scoreless frames on either side of the one-run sixth, and earned his second win.

The final run of the night came in the ninth, as Great Falls pushed their advantage to three when Jake Peter brought home Toby Thomas with a ground out, after Thomas had tripled earlier in the frame.

Connor Walsh took over for Santiago and put up a pair of zeroes for the Voyagers in the eighth and ninth, and fanned a career-high four while collecting his second save.

For the fifth game in a row, it was the Voyagers who scored the contest's first runs. With one out in the second, Great Falls put together three consecutive base runners with two singles and a walk to load the bases for John Ziznewski. Ziznewski produced a run with a ground out, giving the Voyager third baseman an RBI for the third straight game.

The Chukars answered with a pair of their own against Voyager starter Brian Clark in their half of the second. Desmond Henry drove in the first run with a single, then stole two bases before he was brought home by Jecksson Flores to give Idaho Falls the lead.

Great Falls then evened the score in the fourth as Zach Fish scored an error by Chukars catcher Kyle Pollock who dropped a throw from the outfield while trying to tag Fish out at the plate.

The win is the third straight for the Voyagers and gives Great Falls a winning road trip with a 4-3 record. It also ends the regular season series with Idaho Falls, with the Voyagers taking five of the seven meetings.

The Voyagers return home Wednesday night to begin a two-game series with the Helena Brewers at Centene Stadium. In the series opener, Great Falls will send right-hander Zach Thompson (0-2 4.60) to the mound, while the Brewers will turn to fellow righty J.B. Kole (0-1, 13.50). First pitch is set for 7:00 and coverage will begin at 6:45 on 1400 AM KXGF and gfvoyagers.com.
