Round Rock Express News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Round Rock Express (51-50) got a quality start from LHP Robbie Ross Jr. Tuesday night as they ran off their second straight victory over the Oklahoma City RedHawks (52-53) 4-1 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The quality start was the second straight for Ross Jr. (2-3, 6.65 ERA), who earned his second win of the season. The left-hander from Lexington, Kentucky scattered eight hits over six innings, permitting just one run on the night. He struck out six and walked two in his best outing since joining the Express in mid-June.
Oklahoma City broke through for a run in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead. With one out, LF Preston Tucker lined a single into right field. After a strikeout and walk, 1B Matt Duffy ended the scoreless tie, plating Tucker with an RBI base knock to center.
The Express responded promptly with a run in the fifth to knot the game back up. CF Jared Hoying drew a walk to begin the inning then put himself into scoring position by stealing second. 1B Brett Nicholas, who would go on to finish 3-4 in the game, followed with a lined shot back through the box to score Hoying and even the score at 1-1. Nicholas now has three three-hit performances in the last six games.
In the seventh, Hoying put his power stroke on display to hurdle Round Rock into the lead. With one out, the E-Train center fielder hammered his 16th long ball of the year to end a personal 17-game homer drought and give his club a 2-1 advantage.
Round Rock tacked on two more runs in the eighth courtesy of LF Michael Choice to bring the final score to 4-1. With two on and no outs, the left fielder smacked a double down the left field line to extend the E-Train lead to three.
Reliever RHP Phil Klein held Oklahoma City in check for two innings in relief of Ross before RHP Spencer Patton locked down the win for Round Rock in the ninth. The save was Patton's first since joining the Express this past Saturday. He saved 14 games for the Omaha Storm Chasers during the first half before being traded to Texas.
Houston Astros RHP Collin McHugh started for the RedHawks Tuesday, but did not factor into the decision in his first rehab start since injuring his finger. The right-hander, who is the midst of a breakout season with Houston, allowed just one run on three hits over five innings, while striking out five and walking one.
The E-Train will continue their series with the RedHawks Wednesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. RHP Jerome Williams (0-1, 6.10 ERA) is scheduled to take the ball for Round Rock in game two against Oklahoma City's RHP David Martinez (5-6, 5.14 ERA). Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m.
