New York Boulders News Release

(Ramapo, N.Y.) - The Rockland Boulders continued their winning homestand with a 5-0 win against the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Dominant pitching from Sean Bierman and a great day at the plate and field from Ryan Stovall led the way to a Boulders (32-23) victory over the Aigles (19-38).

The Boulders scored five runs tonight, which proved to be more than enough for Bierman (5-5). Rockland's offense got off to a fast start, when Antone DeJesus crushed a ball to right, hitting his second home run of the season. The score remained 1-0 for a while, since both Bierman and Mike Bradstreet settled down nicely. However, the Boulders looked good in the fifth, when Stephen Cardullo and Marcus Nidiffer singled, putting runners on first and second with only one out. Ninth hitter Sean O'Hare looking to keep the rally going, singled into center field, scoring Cardullo and doubling Rockland's lead to 2-0.

Bierman showed tonight why he's got the second best ERA in the Can-Am league. The leftie seemed in control all night, and had no problem pitching in the stretch when he had to. He also got some help tonight from Ryan Stovall who played spectacular defense all night. With runners on the corners and two outs in the third, Jose Cuevas came up to the plate looking to put the Aigles on the board. Cuevas hit a sinking line drive to right, which initially looked like an RBI hit. However, Stovall made an incredible diving catch ending the inning and keeping Trois-Rivieres from plating their first run. Moving to the sixth inning, Stovall showed timely defense yet again to end an inning. With Michael Hernandez on second and Cuevas at first, Nidiffer tried to pick of Cuevas. Unfortunately, the throw sailed past Edmondson into right, moving both runners up a base. Fortunately for the Boulders though, Hernandez got greedy. Seeing that the ball rolled into deep right, he tried to take one more base and give the Aigles their first run. Stovall had other plans. The right fielder showed off his canon of an arm, throwing out Hernandez with a perfect one hopper to Nidiffer.

Fantastic defense and timely hitting continued once more in the eighth inning. Starting with the defense, it couldn't have come at a better time for Bierman. With runners on the corners and one out, Hernandez got a 3-0 green light to swing away. He hit it hard, but the trick is to hit them where they ain't. Sean O'Hare made a diving snag on Hernandez's liner and doubled off Joey Side at first, ending the inning and giving Rockland a lot of momentum. The irony of it is Side reached based on an O'Hare error, who clearly made up for it by saving a run. Moving to the bottom of the frame, Stovall continued his great night again, this time on the offensive side of things. After Maloney walked and Cardullo singled, Stovall came through with his 12th home run of the season, giving Rockland a commanding 5-0 lead. Chad Robinson came in to pitch the ninth, sealing the deal for a Boulders win.

Bierman picked up the win tonight, throwing eight shutout innings, walking three, and striking out three. Bradstreet (0-1) picked up the tough luck loss in his Can-Am league debut, going seven innings, giving up two runs, walking zero, and striking out four. DeJesus, Edmondson, and Cardullo all had solid days at the plate going 2 for 4. Stovall went 1 for 4 with 3 RBIs, all coming from his three run shot in the eighth.

The Boulders continue their three game series with the Aigles Wednesday, July 23rd at 11:00 AM at Provident Bank Park. Rockland will look to take the series tomorrow and improve upon their impressive 10-3 season record against the Agiles.
