New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Kevin Nolan broke a scoreless tie in the sixth and Sean Ochinko provided insurance with a two-run double in the eight as the Fisher Cats beat the Trenton Thunder, 3-0, on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.
A true pitchers' duel saw Scott Copeland (W; 6-7) and Trenton lefty Manny Banuelos (ND) match each other with zeroes on the board through the first five innings. After Copeland recorded a 1-2-3 sixth, the Fisher Cats (48-55) got to work.
Reliever James Pazos (L; 0-1) began the inning quietly by recording the first two outs with no problems. He then executed the perfect baseball sin with a two-out walk to Jon Berti. Andy Burns reached on an infield single, which led to Nolan's laser-beam single to right field to plate Berti for a 1-0 advantage.
In the eight, Ochinko struck, again with two outs. Burns and Nolan singled with one out before Matt Newman struck out for the second out recorded by Trenton pitcher Nick Rumbelow. Ochinko followed with a near-homer off the top of the left field wall to push across two more for the 3-0 lead.
That was enough for Copeland, who matched a season-high with eight innings to win for the first time since June 4. He allowed just three hits and a walk, putting just one runner past first base. He struck out four before Gregory Infante (S; 14) pitched a scoreless ninth to stay a perfect 14-for-114 in save attempts.
The series and the homestand come to an end on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. with the final Splash Day of the season presented by Whale's Tale Waterpark. Tickets are available at www.nhfishercats.com, by visiting the Fisher Cats ticket office, and by calling (603) 641-2005.
The pitching match-up for the finale has lefty Matt Boyd (1-3, 6.42) against Thunder righty Zach Nuding (5-2, 3.00). Radio coverage begins at 11:45 a.m. with Tom Gauthier on WGIR 610 AM and www.nhfishercats.com.
