Bonifacio Returns to Cubs from Rehab Assignment

KODAK - The Chicago Cubs announced a transaction that impacts their Double-A affiliate Tennessee Smokies roster prior to tonight's contest against the Mississippi Braves at Smokies Stadium.

Cubs utility player Emilio Bonifacio has returned to the Cubs' active roster from his Major League Rehab Assignment with the Smokies. In four games with Tennessee, Bonifiacio hit .250 (4-16) with one run scored. Included in that span was a four-hit game on July 20 at Huntsville.

Prior to being placed on the Disabled List with a strained oblique, the 29-year-old posted a .261 average (63-241) with 29 runs, ten doubles, three triples, one homer and 17 RBI in 61 games with the Cubs. Through the first three games of his rehab assignment with the Mesa Cubs, Bonifacio compiled a .300 clip (3-10) with one run scored.

Tennessee's active roster stands at 25 and a revised roster is attached.

The Smokies face the M-Braves in the second game of their series tonight in Kodak, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. RHP Corey Black (5-6, 2.63), the Southern League's leader in earned-run average, is slated to take the hill for Tennessee, while Mississippi is expected to send RHP Greg Ross (3-1, 1.34) to the mound.
