Triunfel Comes Through Again, Isotopes Win Fourth-Straight

July 22, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

NEED TO KNOW: Carlos Triunfel has only been back in Albuquerque for three days and has already provided two game-winning hits during that time. On Monday night, the Albuquerque Isotopes (48-55) beat the Fresno Grizzlies (50-53) 5-4 behind Triunfel's eighth-inning RBI double. The Topes have won four straight games and six of their last seven.

NEVER IN DOUBT: Albuquerque scored one in the first and three in the second, and Fresno scored two in the first and two in the third to tie the game up at four all. After that, both pitchers settled in a held the offenses at bay. With two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning, Roger Bernadina picked up an infield single. In-stepped Carlos Triunfel who mashed a double over the center fielder's head and up the hill to the base of the wall. Bernadina easily scored from first, giving the Topes a 5-4 lead. The night's drama still wasn't over though. Jose Dominguez entered for a save opportunity in the top of the ninth. After a pair of singles to leadoff the inning, Dominugez walked the next batter to load the bases with no outs. He induced a groundball on the next batter to pick up a force out at home. Dominguez then struck out the next batter and jammed the next hitter for a pop up to end the game.

TRIUN-RIFIC: Carlos Triunfel has been clutch since returning to the Duke City on Saturday. That night he provided a two-out go-ahead home run to give the Isotopes an 8-7 victory against the Sacramento River Cats. On Monday night, his two-out RBI-double plated the winning run against Fresno, and he finished the evening 1-for-3 with two RBI. In three games back in Albuquerque, Triunfel is 3-for-10 with one run scored, two doubles, one home run and six RBI.

DELIVERY BY FEDEX: Needing a spark in the bottom of the first inning already down 2-0, catcher Tim Federowicz blasted a two-out solo home run to left center field to put the Isotopes on the board. It was his ninth long ball of the season. He finished the game 2-for-3 with one home run, one run scored, one RBI and a walk.

MR. MAGOO: Right-hander Matt Magill has picked up the win in two of the Isotopes last five wins. He received the victory Monday night, tossing a one-hit eighth inning. Magill also picked up a win on July 12 at Las Vegas, tossing 1.1 innings of two-hit ball. Magill is now 6-5 on the season with a 5.10 ERA.

ON DECK: The Isotopes play game two of their four-game series against the Grizzlies Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Jeff Bennett (4-4, 4.48 ERA) will take the hill for Albuquerque, while Fresno will go with Right-hander Jason Berken (7-6, 4.32 ERA).

IN THE HOLE: After their four-game set against the Grizzlies, the Topes will head out for a eight-game road trip to play the Reno Aces and these same River Cats.
