Bowie Baysox News Release

Bowie, Md. - A wild pitch with two outs and a runner on third base in the top of the 10th inning Monday sealed the Baysox (52-50) fate in a 4-3 loss to the Harrisburg Senators (41-60). The Julio DePaula wild pitch came after the Senators and Baysox traded ninth inning runs to send the game to extra innings.

The Baysox jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first inning against Harrisburg starter Paolo Espino. Niuman Romero drew a one-out walk and Chris Marrero followed with a two-out home run to left field to give Bowie a 2-0 lead.

The Senators tied the game 2-2 in the top of the fourth inning against Baysox starter Matt Bischoff. Jason Martinson reached on a two-out fielding error by Garabez Rosa and Drew Vettleson followed with a home run to right field to tie the game.

Harrisburg broke the tie in the top of the ninth inning against DePaula. Ricky Hague hit a one-out single to shortstop and then stole second base. With two outs, Hague scored on a Jose Lozada single to left field to give the Senators a 3-2 lead.

It took a Harrisburg Senators mistake for the Baysox to come back and tie the game 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth inning against reliever Chris Manno. David Adams drew a two-out walk and Sharlon Schoop then came on to pinch-run. Michael Ohlman hit a slow-roller back to the pitcher who threw the ball past the first baseman, allowing Schoop to score from first on the error and tie the game.

The Senators took the lead right back in the top of the 10th inning. Matt Skole hit a one-out single to right field and moved to third base on a two-out Jason Martinson single through the hole at second base. Skole then came home on a wild pitch from DePaula to give Harrisburg the 4-3 lead.

Bischoff pitched four innings and allowed two unearned runs on three hits while striking out four in a no decision. Reliever Jake Pettit pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out four and walking one. Steven Hensley pitched a scoreless eighth inning for the Baysox, walking one batter. DePaula pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out three and walking one in the loss.

Manno picked up the win for Harrisburg, throwing one and one-third innings and allowing one unearned run on a walk and three strikeouts.

LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (3-6, 5.15) takes the mound for the Baysox Tuesday as the team plays the second game in a three-game home series with the Harrisburg Senators. He will be opposed by RHP Brian Dupra (1-4, 6.17).
