Burlington Bees News Release
(Grand Rapids-MI) A two run fourth inning was all the Whitecaps needed to defeat the Burlington Bees, on Monday night, 2-0 in the series finale at Fifth Third Ballpark in Grand Rapids.
Mike Fish and Eric Aguilera put together back-to-back singles, in the top of the fourth, to put runners at first and second. After a Ryan Dalton sacrifice bunt, the Bees had runners at second and third with one out. Kevin Ziomek went on to strike out Tyler Palmer and Trevor Gretzky, to end the threat.
Javier Betancourt recorded the first hit for West Michigan, a triple off the left field wall to lead off the fourth inning. Dominic Ficociello put the Whitecaps on top with an infield single, scoring Betancourt, giving West Michigan a 1-0 lead. Later in the frame, Grayson Greiner made it a 2-0 game with a sacrifice fly.
Kevin Zomeik went on to strike out career high 11 batters. Whitecaps' pitching did not allow Bees 'base runner after the fourth inning, retiring 17 Bees' hitters in a row to end the game.
West Michigan starter, Kevin Ziomek (8-6) picked up the win, while Harrison Cooney (8-5) suffered the loss for the Bees. Adam Ravenelle (1) earned the save.
After an off day on Tuesday, the Burlington Bees (54-45) welcome in the Great Lakes Loons (49-51) on Wednesday night at 6:30 PM. Yency Almonte makes the start for the Bees against Greg Harris of the Loons. For more information and to purchase tickets, please log on to www.gobees.com or call the Bees office at (319)-754-5705.
