Canadians Sweep Tri-City To Force Spokane Victory

July 21, 2014 - Northwest League (NWL1) - Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - With the Canadians in a must-win game against Tri-City on Monday afternoon, a 15-hit performance helped Vancouver to a 10-6 victory over Tri-City to move 1/2 game up on Spokane with the Indians set to host Everett with playoff aspirations on the line.

Tied at 2-2 heading to the top of the 5th inning, Vancouver would score the next eight runs of the game to pull away for the victory although a four-run outburst by Tri-City in the bottom of the 9th inning made the game uncomfortable before Canadians reliever LHP Francesco Gracesqui got Josh Fuentes to ground out to end the threat and send the C's to a 25th victory of the first half.

1B Ryan McBroom went 3-for-4 on the afternoon with an RBI while SS Franklin Barreto went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored to pace the Canadians offense.

RHP Miguel Castro scattered four hits over his six innings of work striking out five to secure his 5th victory of the summer against just two defeats. LHP Michael Kraft and RHP Joe Lovecchio pitched scoreless frames before handing the ball to RHP Yeyfey Del Rosario who struggled going just 1/3 inning allowing four runs on two hits which included a three-run home run from Dust Devils RF Dillon Thomas. Vancouver would allow the tying run to come to the plate before Gracesqui managed the final out to make the final 10-6.

With the victory, Vancouver wins a franchise best 25th game of the first half and sends Tri-City to 14-24 as the standings reset ahead of Tuesday's games across the Northwest League.

Notes: Canadians CF Roemon Fields stole his league-leading 28th base of the summer in the top of the 5th inning... The C's go 7-1 in the final eight first half games and win the last four in a row... Vancouver outscored Tri-City 31-8 in three games in Paso, WA.

The victory by Vancouver forces Spokane to win at home against Everett as the rubber match of that three-game series gets underway at 6:30pm from Spokane's Avista Stadium.

Vancouver Canadians Baseball returns to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Tuesday, July 22nd starting at 7:05pm as South Division Pennant winners Hillsboro comes to town for a five-game home stand ahead of the C's longest road trip of the summer.
