Atlanta Braves Option Bethancourt, Recall Gattis

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - The Atlanta Braves have optioned catcher Christian Bethancourt to Triple-A Gwinnett, as catcher Evan Gattis has completed his rehab assignment with G-Braves and has been activated from the 15-day disabled list.
Bethancourt, 22, appeared in 13 games for the Braves, hitting .240 (12-for-50) with one double and three RBIs. The backstop recorded his first Major League hit on June 28 against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in his first career start.
The Panama City, Panama native entered the 2014 season rated the Braves' No. 2 prospect and "Best Defensive Catcher" according to Baseball America. In 63 games for Gwinnett during his Triple-A debut, he batted .273 (63-for-231) with 12 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 32 RBIs and four stolen bases.
Gattis returns to Atlanta after serving a four-game rehab stint with the G-Braves. In four starts, he batted .188 (3-for-16) with two RBIs. Prior to being put on the 15-day DL with a bulging thoracic disc on June 29, he batted .290 (65-for-224) with 10 doubles, one triple, 16 home runs, 29 runs scored and 39 RBIs in 63 games with the Braves.
The Gwinnett Braves continue the homestand with the opener of a four-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders on Monday night, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 PM. Right-hander Cody Martin (6-6, 3.52) will start for the G-Braves, while the RailRiders counter with right-hander Bruce Billings (4-5, 5.34). Tony Schiavone will have the play-by-play call beginning at 6:20 PM on WDUN.com, GwinnettBraves.com, Tune-In Radio and the MiLB First Pitch app.
