Vancouver And Spokane Tied For 1st With One Game To Go

July 21, 2014 - Northwest League (NWL1) - Vancouver Canadians News Release

(Gesa Stadium - Pasco, WA) - Just minutes after hearing that the Spokane Indians (24-13) had fallen 3-2 to Everett, the Canadians (24-13) took to the field out at Gesa Stadium and pounded out 12 hits en route to a 9-0 victory over Tri-City to draw even in the North Division with one game to remaining on the first half schedule.

Vancouver 1B Ryan McBroom went 3-for-5 which included his 6th home run of the season in the top of the 1st inning, a two-run home run that helped the C's to an early 3-0 lead.

Canadians RHP Chase Mallard went 5 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball striking out five for his second win of the season while the bullpen kept the Dust Devils off the board the rest of the night with LHP Jose Fernandez (0.2IP), RHP Alberto Tirado (2.0IP) and RHP Andrew Case (1.0IP) securing Vancouver's 24th victory against just 13 losses.

Vancouver put the game out of reach in the top of the 6th inning plating four more runs which was highlighted by 1B Ryan McBroom's two-run double that brought his season-RBI total to 30. The C's would tap in a pair of runs in the top of the 8th inning to make the final 9-0, setting up a must-win game on Monday.

For the Canadians to clinch the North Division title on Monday, they have to complete the three-game sweep of Tri-City out at Gesa Stadium, and also hope that Spokane falls for a second straight game to Everett out at Avista Stadium. If the Canadians fall on Monday, the Indians will advance to the post-season before they even take to the field on Monday night.

The Canadians return to Scotiabank Field at Nat Bailey Stadium on Tuesday, July 22nd to open up a five-game home stand against South Division First-Half Champions, Hillsboro as the Hops are in Vancouver through July 26th. Tickets can be found at www.canadiansbaseball.com. Note: July 26th is SOLD OUT, but tickets remain to the first four games of the home stand.
