'Riders Beat the Knights 16-5 on Sunday in Finale

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Andy Wilkins hit two more home runs on Sunday, but the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders slugged 17 hits and scored 16 runs en route to a 16-5 win over the Charlotte Knights in the finale of their four-game series from BB&T Ballpark. Despite the loss, the Knights won three of four games in the series and six of eight against the RailRiders this season.

Wilkins has been one of the hottest hitters in the International League and finished up a dominating series and season against the RailRiders on Sunday. A native of Tulsa, OK, Wilkins went 3-for-5 with two home runs, two runs scored, and two RBIs in the finale. He hit five home runs in the four-game series and overall against the 'Riders this season, he hit .618 (21-for-34) with 12 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, seven home runs, and 14 RBIs over eight games. He currently leads the International League with 21 home runs this year.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre scored four runs in the second inning, highlighted by Carmen Angelini's first home run of the season. His three-run shot came off of Charlotte starter Daniel McCutchen, who was saddled with the loss.

McCutchen (0-1, 10.71) gave up 11 runs on nine hits over 4.1 innings in Sunday's finale. He walked three batters, gave up two home runs, and threw 85 pitches. He allowed three more runs in the second inning and four in the fifth before being replaced by Shawn Hill, who was activated off the disabled list before Sunday's game. Hill gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits over 3.2 innings pitched.

All nine SWB batters had at least one hit, while six batters had at least two hits. Kyle Roller and Adonis Garcia also homered for the RailRiders. Roller, a product of East Carolina University and a native of Rockingham, NC, went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, the home run, and two RBIs.

Playing in his 440th career game with the Charlotte Knights, Jordan Danks went 3-for-5 on the day. He is now seven games played away from tying Joe Borchard for the most games played in Charlotte Knights franchise history (447). Danks now has 427 hits, which is 12 away from the all-time mark also held by Borchard (439).

Marcus Semien added three hits on the night, including his eighth home run of the season. Semien finished a triple short of the cycle. Justin Jirschele singled in his only at-bat -- a pinch hitting role in the eighth inning. It was his first career Triple-A hit.

Charlotte welcomed 9,806 fans to the ballpark on Sunday in their 53rd home game of the season. Overall this year, the Knights have welcomed 511,068 fans through the gates of BB&T Ballpark in 2014 -- the most in all of Minor League Baseball.

The Knights will now make the trek to Indianapolis, IN and open a four-game series with the Indianapolis Indians. In Monday's series opener, RHP Bobby Doran (1-0, 7.20) gets the start for the Knights against RHP Jay Jackson (5-3, 4.62) for the Indians.
