Lancaster, CA. - The Nuts offense continued to struggle in a 5-2 loss against the JetHawks on Saturday night at The Hanger.
JetHawks (13-16; 57-42) starter Kent Emanuel (W, 5-3) retired the first eight batters he faced while turning in five-shutout innings of three-hit ball. The Nuts (8-21; 31-68) had just one at-bat with a runner in scoring position in the loss, their fourth straight.
The lone offense for the Nuts came off the bat of Dave Bergin who clubbed a two-run, ninth-inning homer; his fourth in six games with Modesto.
Ben Alsup (L, 1-10) allowed two home runs in the third and walked five in his five-inning, five-run outing on Saturday night.
Matt Heidenreich (S, 2) tossed four innings and struck out six batters while allowing just three hits and walking one.
The Nuts and JetHawks square off in the second of a four-game set with Matt Flemer on the mound for the Nuts and Josh Hader throwing for the JetHawks on Sunday evening. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 4:55 p.m.
