Late Rally Lifts 51s over Bees

July 20, 2014 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Salt Lake Bees News Release

Justin Thomas tossed six and two-thirds shutout innings against the Las Vegas 51s, but was unable to capture the victory as the Bees fell 6-2. Thomas's outing marks the sixth Bees starting pitcher this season to hold an opponent scoreless through at least five innings pitched.

"Justin did a great job. He competed his behind off tonight," said Salt Lake manager Keith Johnson. "He left himself in a position to get a win and we just wouldn't able to do it."

The Bees jumped out to an 2-0 early lead as Brennan Boesch took a pitch from Logan Verrett over the center field wall with Luis Jimenez on first. Following both teams were quiet on offense before Andrew Brown doubled in the top of the seventh and Thomas issued two walks with two outs to load the bases. Dustin Richardson took over on the mound and was able to force Juan Centeno to ground out to end the inning and keep the 51s off the board. The tides turn in the eighth as Brown hit one out against Kyler Newby with two runners aboard to give the 51s the lead. Las Vegas added two insurance runs in the ninth to secure the victory.

Held to just five hits, singles from Shawn O'Malley, Luis Martinez, Roberto Lopez and Luis Jimenez along with Boesch's home run made up the Bees offensive effort.

The Bees are back tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at Smith's Ballpark with Luna Lune performing post game as part of the Bees Summer Concert Series. For more information and tickets visit slbees.com.
