Jackson Generals News Release

MONTGOMERY, ALA. (JULY 19, 2014) - The Montgomery Biscuits (15-14, 50-49) spoiled the Generals (12-16, 43-54) bid to lock up their third straight series victory with a 6-5 walk-off win Saturday at Riverwalk Stadium. The loss evened the series at two wins each. Jackson scored four two-out runs in the seventh to take their first lead 5-3, but it was all spoiled by more dramatics in the ninth by the Biscuits. The walk-off loss also spoiled a chance for starter Victor Sanchez to win his third straight on the mound and be Jackson's first six-game winner.

Montgomery took the lead early as Jake Hager reached on an error with one out in the first, and Taylor Motter followed with his ninth home run of the season to give the Biscuits the early 2-0 lead.

Jackson cut the lead in half in the fourth as Leon Landry (1x5, 2 R, SB) led the inning off with a double. With D.J. Peterson (2x5, R, 3 RBI) batting, Landry stole third and then scored on Peterson's single to cut the Montgomery lead to 2-1.

Two innings later Ryan Brett singled, advanced to second on a failed pick-off move by Victor Sanchez (5-4, 3.59), and scored on a base hit by Jake Hager to increase the Biscuits lead to 3-1 after six innings. The lead would be short lived, however.

Just a half inning later, the Generals offense showed their flare for the dramatics. With two outs and nobody on, Brock Hebert (2x3, R, BB) walked and was followed by a single from Ketel Marte (2x5, R). After a pitching change, Landry reached on an error and the bases were loaded for Peterson. Peterson narrowly missed his first Jackson grand slam on a ground rule double that scored Hebert and Marte to tie the game 3-3. Pat Kivlehan (1x5, 2 RBI) followed with a two-RBI single that brought home Landry and Peterson and gave the Generals their first lead of the game, 5-3.

During the seventh inning, Jackson left fielder Jack Marder (0x3) was hit in the head by a pitch. Marder did leave the game under his own power, and was replaced by Dario Pizzano (0x0).

The Biscuits were not done yet, however as they loaded the bases with one out against Generals closer Richard Vargas (1-2, 5.04). Vargas unloaded a wild pitch that scored Cameron Seitzer to cut the lead to one at 5-4, then issued his third walk of the inning to re-load the bases for Willie Argo. David Colvin (0-1, 3.60) then came out of the bullpen for Jackson to try and end the game. But Argo singled to bring home Luke Maile to tie the game, and then with two outs Jake Hager ripped a single down the right field line that scored Kes Carter with the winning run as Montgomery walked off 6-5.

Braulio Lara (2-1, 5.34) picked up the win for the Biscuits as Vargas suffered his second loss of the season. The comeback spoiled another good start from Sanchez who lasted 6.0 innings and allowed three runs, just one of them earned, and four hits while striking out five.

The Generals will attempt to win their fifth rubber game of the season Sunday as they finish the five-game set in Montgomery. Southpaw Tyler Pike (2-1, 3.20) will start for Jackson as Montgomery will send Victor Mateo (10-6, 3.41) to the mound. The game will begin at 5:35 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
