Club Deportivo Chivas USA News Release
NEW YORK (Saturday, July 19, 2014) - Chivas USA forward and club leading scorer Erick "Cubo" Torres was named by Commissioner Don Garber to the AT&T MLS All-Star Game roster, Major League Soccer announced today. The 21-year-old Mexican-born striker has 13 goals in 18 starts this season including goals in four straight wins.
"I don't have words to express how excited I feel right now," said Torres. "I am very thankful to Commissioner Garber, my coaches and teammates for helping me reach this goal. It's an honor to be thought of as one of the best players in such a demanding league. I am excited to represent Chivas USA and MLS against Bayern Munich, one of the great clubs in the world."
The Guadalajara native joined the Red-and-White in July 2013 on loan from Chivas Guadalajara, and in just over a year in MLS, the young striker has claimed the all-time scoring record for Mexican-born players with 20 goals in 33 appearances. Torres' back-to-back game-winning goals in four days in early July earned him MLS Player of the Week honors and he was also named MLS Latino de la Jornada three weeks in a row.
"We are all very proud and happy for Erick because he has earned and deserves to be featured in the All-Star Game," said Chivas USA Head Coach Wilmer Cabrera. "This call is very important not only for Erick, but also for Chivas USA because it represents the hard work the whole team has been doing so far this season. Cubo has proven to be one of the top players in this League and now fans all over the world will get to see his talents in such a prestigious match."
Torres and Chivas USA are currently in Washington, D.C. preparing to take on Eastern Conference foe D.C. United on Sunday at RFK Stadium. The national televised game will be broadcast on Univision Deportes Network starting at 5 p.m. (PT) and locally on KDOC-TV LA 56. Radio listeners will be able to hear all the action by tuning in to ESPN Deportes Radio KWKW 1330 AM. For all the latest news visit cdchivasusa.com and follow Chivas USA on Facebook and Twitter.
