Thurm Dices Ducks As Revs Return From All-Star Break With A Win

Corey Thurman turned in a brilliant seven innings as the York Revolution returned from the All-Star Break with a 5-2 win over the Long Island Ducks on Friday evening in front of 5,481 fans at Bethpage Ballpark in Central Islip, NY. The Revs improve to 4-4 in the second half and 45-33 overall for the season, and will go for their third consecutive win overall as the series continues on Saturday night.

Thurman (4-3) needed just 73 pitches to match his longest outing of the season, allowing only one run on five hits as he improved to 7-1 lifetime at Bethpage Ballpark. After allowing four hits in the first two innings, his only other hit allowed came on an infield single on his next-to-last batter faced, as the right-hander retired 14 consecutive batters at one point.

Long Island scored the game's first run on a two-out RBI double to left-center by Adam Bailey in the bottom of the first inning, but Thurman was dominant the rest of the way.

Offensively, the Revs tied the game in the top of the fourth as Eric Patterson cranked a one-out triple to deep right and scored on a throwing error by Bailey, circling the bases on the play. The triple was Patterson's league-best 11th of the season, adding to his club record, and climbing within two of matching the league's single-season record.

York took the lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning. After loading the bases with no outs, a double play grounder off the bat of Bryant Nelson plated the go-ahead run. Salvador Paniagua later ripped a two-out RBI single to right, bringing home a second run to make it 3-1.

The Revs plated two more in the seventh inning. Justin Greene reached on an error to start the frame and stole second base, tying a Revs single-season club record by notching the 100th steal as a team for the season. A wild pitch moved Greene to third before he scored on a single through the drawn-in infield by Wilson Valdez. Travis Garcia later added a sacrifice fly, increasing the lead to 5-1.

The Ducks threatened in the eighth as three singles produced a run, the third coming from Bailey who posted his second RBI of the night, but reliever Beau Vaughan struck out Brandon Bantz looking with the bases loaded to maintain the lead.

Rommie Lewis allowed only an infield single in the ninth as he became just the second pitcher in Revs history to reach the 20-save mark in a single season, securing the final three outs.

Ducks starter John Brownell (9-5) logged a fourth consecutive quality start but took the loss, charged with three runs on eight hits in six innings.

The Revs pounded 13 hits for the game, with Patterson and Garcia each going 3-for-4.
