Burlington Bees News Release
(South Bend-IN) The Bees came back from an early deficit to defeat the South Bend Silver Hawks, 4-3, in the series finale on Friday night at Four Winds Field in South Bend.
Joe Munoz opened the scoring for the South Bend Silver Hawks with a first inning double, scoring Chuck Taylor, putting South Bend in front 1-0.
Kody Eaves and Angel Rosa singled back-to-back to begin the fourth inning. Mike Fish sent a soft grounder to third, Munoz's throw to first was overthrown and both Eaves and Rosa, giving the Bees a 2-1 lead.
The top of the order got things going once again for the Bees, as Kody Eaves singled to lead off the sixth. A wild pitch allowed Eaves to reach second. Mike Fish upped the Bees' lead to 3-1 with a single to right, scoring Eaves. Later in the inning with runners at the corners, Mike Fish scored on an error on a pickoff attempt, and the Bees extended their lead to 4-1.
Bees; starter Clint Sharp, settled down after the first inning and worked four straights scoreless innings, sitting down nine in a row at one point.
Chuck Taylor led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a double. A groundout by Daniel Palka would move Taylor to third. Taylor then came into score on a groundout by Joe Munoz, cutting the Bees' lead in half at 4-2.
South Bend cut the Bees' lead to one at 4-3 in the ninth, but Alan Busenitz was able to finish it off, giving the Bees the win.
Clint Sharp (6-5) picked up the win for the Bees, as John Omahen (4-4) was pegged with the loss. Alan Busenitz (13) notched the save.
The Burlington Bees (52-44) continue their six game road trip as they head to West Michigan to take on the West Michigan Whitecaps (59-38) in a three game series. Game one is scheduled for Saturday at 6:00 PM Central Time. Garrett Nuss makes the start for the Bees against Austin Kubitza for West Michigan.
