Freedom Shut Out Crushers

Florence Y'alls News Release

(Avon, OH) - Casey Henn (4-4) shut down the Lake Erie Crushers (27-25) for seven and a third innings and the bullpen did the rest as the Florence Freedom (22-28) prevailed by a score of 2-0 Friday night.

Friday's win is the third shutout tossed by the Freedom pitching staff this season. It's only the Freedom's second win of the year when scoring fewer than three runs.

Henn, a Cincinnati native, was dominant for the second time this season against Lake Erie. He scattered six hits and struck out six while only walking one through his seven and a third innings of shutout ball.

Meanwhile the Freedom scored all the runs they needed in the third. With one out, Cole Miles singled and stole second base. Ben Kline singled him to third and Kline advanced to second on a passed ball. Rob Kelly delivered a sacrifice fly to drive in Miles and Florence took a 1-0 lead on Lake Erie starter Zach Gordon (0-2). With two away Sam Eberle singled to right, the throw home appeared to beat Kline but he slid around the tag to score Florence's second run of the game.

The Freedom tallied five hits off Gordon through his three and a third innings of work but only managed one hit against a combined five Lake Erie relievers.

It wouldn't matter though as Henn cruised until the eighth inning. Pinch hitter Joey Burney lined a single to left. Craig Hertler singled to right and Burney attempted to advance to third. But Ryan Solberg had other ideas as the rookie right fielder gunned down Burney at third with a perfect one-hop throw to Ben Kline. Pete Levitt entered the game and struck out two batters to end the inning.

Jorge Marban worked a scoreless ninth for his eighth save of the season.
