Today's Game: The RedHawks will play a doubleheader against the Nashville Sounds starting at 4:05 p.m. The teams will play two seven-inning games, with the second game starting approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game.
Last Game: Thursday's game was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of today's doubleheader...On Sunday, the RedHawks went into the All-Star Break with a 5-2 win in Iowa. The RedHawks took a 1-0 lead in the second when Preston Tucker hit a blast to the bleachers in right-center field. The I-Cubs took the lead in the fourth, scoring twice without a collecting a hit. The RedHawks went back in front in the fifth when Jonathan Villar hit a two-run homer to make it 3-2. Tucker led off the sixth with his second homer for a 4-2 lead. Tucker collected his fourth and final hit with a leadoff double in the eighth and later scored on a RBI single by Jio Mier for a 5-2 advantage. RedHawk starting pitcher Mike Foltynewicz (7-6) allowed one earned run over six innings, scattering three singles with one walk and five strikeouts. Kevin Chapman worked a perfect ninth and earned his sixth save.
Today's Probable Pitchers: Alex White (1-2) is set to make his second start of the season...His first 15 appearances were all out of the bullpen, and he made his first start last Wednesday at home against New Orleans, pitching a season-high three innings. He allowed two runs and three hits, with two walks and three strikeouts in a no decision...White continues to rebound after spending the entire 2013 season on the Disabled List. He suffered a right elbow strain during his last start of 2013 Spring Training and underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2013. Prior to the injury, the Astros announced he would open the season in the starting rotation...White came to the Astros from Colorado as part of a trade for reliever Wilton Lopez on Dec. 4, 2012...He was selected by Cleveland with the 15th overall pick of the 2009 draft from the University of North Carolina. He was traded from Cleveland to Colorado on July 31, 2011 as part of a package for Ubaldo Jimenez...Tonight is his first career meeting against Nashville.
Asher Wojciechowski will make the start in game two, aiming for his first win...In his last outing he allowed a season-high eight runs (five earned) and 11 hits over 3.2 innings July 10 against New Orleans...Wojceichowski's 2014 season has been marred by injuries. He missed the beginning of the season after suffering a strained lat muscle Feb. 1 while throwing a bullpen session. Shortly after his season debut in New Orleans May 21, Wojciechowski sustained a right forearm flexor strain, sidelining him again. He returned to action June 18 in Reno...Since returning from the flexor strain, Wojciechowski has struggled a bit, allowing 21 runs (17 earned) and 34 hits over 20.0 IP...He spent the majority of the 2013 season with OKC, going 9-7 with a 3.56 ERA over 22 games. He led the club with 21 starts, 134.0 IP, nine wins and 104 strikeouts. He ranked second in the PCL in opponent average (.229), third in WHIP (1.19) and seventh in ERA (3.56)...He went 0-2 with a 5.03 ERA in three starts against Nashville in 2013.
Against the Sounds: 2014: 3-5 2013: 11-5 All-time: 141-123 At OKC: 74-57
The RedHawks and Sounds split their previous series, May 15-18 in Nashville. Three of four games were decided by one or two runs...The Sounds took three of four against the RedHawks April 24-27 in Bricktown, winning each of the final three games. That marked the first time Nashville had won three straight against OKC since May 27-29, 2011, and the first time they won three straight in Bricktown since taking four in a row, July 5-8, 2007. It was also their first series win in OKC since taking three of five Aug. 30-Sept. 2, 2010...The RedHawks have won their last three season series against Nashville and five of the last six...Since the start of 2012, the RedHawks are 27-13 against the Sounds, including a 14-6 record in OKC.
Double Dipping: Last night marked the first rainout or postponement of any kind for the RedHawks this season. After not playing a doubleheader all season, the RedHawks completed their first twinbill last Saturday in Iowa as part of scheduled day-night doubleheader, splitting the pair...Last season the RedHawks also had the first game after the All-Star Break rained out in Memphis.
Tucker's Tear: Preston Tucker compiled four extra-base hits Sunday in Iowa, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and two doubles. He's the first RedHawk with four extra-base hits in one game since Mike Hessman did it May 17, 2012 in Reno (also two homers and two doubles). Tucker's performance marked the third multi-homer game by a RedHawk this season as well as his third multi-homer game of 2014, with the previous two coming with Double-A Corpus Christi. Tucker has hit safely in seven of his last eight games, with five multi-hit games, batting .467 (14x30). He currently leads all Astros minor leaguers with 20 homers this season.
Dinger Details: With three home runs Sunday, the RedHawks doubled their home run total this month. Their six home runs in July are fewest in the league...After allowing a home run in a season-high seven straight games, the RedHawks have not allowed a home run in each of the past two games. The RedHawks (72) and Sounds (66) have allowed the fewest homers in the PCL this season.
Men of Steal: Austin Wates racked up his league-leading 26th stolen base Sunday. Tacoma's Xavier Avery and Omaha's Paulo Orlando are tied for second with 25 swipes, but have played in 83 and 92 games, respectively. Wates has only played in 61 games...The RedHawks pace the PCL with 20 steals this month and rank fifth in the league with 74 swipes this season.
Innings Eaters: The RedHawks have had their starting pitcher last at least six innings in four straight games for the first time since a run of eight straight, June 2-10. On Saturday and Sunday, Rudy Owens and Mike Foltynewicz gave the RedHawks consecutive quality starts for the first time since June 9-10 vs. Salt Lake (Nick Tropeano and Bobby Doran).
Extra Extra: The RedHawks collected seven extra-base hits in Sunday's win. They had notched a total of eight extra-base hits in their previous five games combined...Sunday marked the first time the RedHawks held their opponent without an extra-base hit since a 1-0 win over Colorado Springs on May 13. The pitching staff scattered three singles and did not allow a hit with a runner on base.
