Curley's Late RBI Lifts Barons over M-Braves

Birmingham, AL - The Birmingham Barons overcame an early 2-0 deficit Thursday, defeating the Mississippi Braves 3-2 in front of a sellout crowd of 8,500 at Regions Field.

Mississippi took a quick 2-0 lead in the second on an RBI base hit by Daniel Castro. Hewould score later in the inning on a passed ball by catcher Kevan Smith. However, that would be the extent of the Braves offense as starter Mike Recchia allowed just four hits over 6.1 IP.

Luis Sierra, in his first game back from the disabled list, cut the M-Braves lead in half in the bottom of the third with an RBI double against starter Greg Ross.

Back-to-back doubles by Christian Marrero and Rangel Ravelo tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth however Ravelo would be stranded at second base by Ross who finished with two runs allowed on six hits while tallying six strikeouts over 6.0 IP. Ravelo led the Barons offense with three hits including his team-leading 26th double of the season.

The score remained knotted into the eighth inning where the Barons loaded the bases and took a 3-2 lead on a sacrifice fly by Chris Curley against reliever Ryne Harper (6-5, 3.16).

Despite loading the bases in the ninth, Kevin Vance recorded his fifth save of the season as the Barons snapped a four game losing streak and improved to 13-12 in the second half. With the loss, the M-Braves fell to 15-12 in the second half.

The Barons will look win their second game in a row tomorrow night as RHP Angel Sanchez (NR) makes his Barons debut against RHP Williams Perez (3-5, 2.65). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM CDT.
