Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips today announced the signing of 1999-born forward Bryce Kindopp to a Western Hockey League Educational Contract. Kindopp becomes the first member of Everett's 15-player 2014 WHL Bantam Draft class to sign with the club.
"Bryce is a player who impressed our scouts all last season, and we felt very fortunate to get him with our second pick in the draft, which didn't come until the third round," said General Manager Garry Davidson. "He's a solid two-way forward who plays a good 200-foot game. It's also worth noting that he comes from a winning program and played an important role on a championship team last year. Bryce is another example of the quality young players on our protected listed right now and we're pleased that he is committed to becoming a Silvertip."
Kindopp, 15, was selected by Everett with the 49th overall pick in the third round of this year's WHL Bantam Draft. A native of Lloydminster, Alberta, the 5-foot-11, 148-pound winger helped his hometown Lloydminster Heat win the 2014 Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League (AMBHL) Championship. The Heat then advanced to the Western Canada Bantam AAA title game before falling in double overtime. Kindopp's teammate and Lloydminster captain Jantzen Leslie was the Silvertips' first-round selection (15th overall) in the 2014 draft.
One of the Heat's most dangerous scorers this past season, Kindopp ranked third on the team with 26 goals and added 37 assists to tie for second on the club with 63 points - good enough to tie for eighth in the league in scoring. He also compiled 58 penalty minutes in 33 regular season games. Kindopp then led all AMBHL players with 16 playoff goals and ranked second in the league with 25 points in the postseason to help lead Lloydminster to the league title.
The WHL Scholarship encourages graduates to pursue a post-secondary education while also affording them the opportunity to continue playing hockey at an elite level in the Canadian University or College systems. For every season a player spends in the WHL, he receives a full year guaranteed Scholarship to a higher education institution. Each year over 300 WHL graduates attend a university or college on a WHL Scholarship.
