London Lightning News Release

(LONDON, Ontario) -- The London Lightning announced today that Carlos Knox would become its next head coach.

"We have found our guy," said General Manager, Taylor Brown. "After almost a month of going through several extremely attractive resumes, we believe that Coach Knox is the best candidate to continue our winning tradition."

Knox began his coaching career as an assistant men's coach at his alma-mater, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), in 2001-2002. During this season, Knox both recruited and developed future Indiana Pacers star George Hill. Hill became the only player in IUPUI history to be drafted into the NBA. Knox has also coached in the CBA and overseas in Saudi Arabia, where he led Club Al Hilal to a 20-4 record and a third place finish in the playoffs.

Currently, Knox is an assistant coach with the WNBA's Indiana Fever in charge of player development.

He is also celebrated for establishing and running the Knox Indy Pro-Am League, a summer league that has been regarded as one of the best pro-am leagues in North America and one of only two pro-am leagues sanctioned by the NBA. The league helps collegiately trained athletes transition into professional basketball and has attracted the likes of Lance Stephenson, Paul George, Eric Gordon, John Wall, Kevin Durant and other NBA superstars.

Collegiately, Knox is a former three-time All-American, two-time NCAA scoring champion and NCAA Division II Player of the year at IUPUI. He finished his career with all of the school's major scoring records, including career points, single season points, single game points, single season scoring average and career scoring average. In 2004, he was inducted into the IUPUI Hall of Fame and his retired No. 34 jersey hangs in the school's basketball facility.

"When Darryl Greene contacted me about Carlos, we immediately got in touch with him and the rest is history. He comes very well recommended by several influential NBA basketball minds and has significant experience developing professional players. We are extremely confident that Carlos will guide our organization in the right direction. We are excited to get working on next season's roster," said Brown.

"On behalf of the London Lightning organization, we would like to welcome Carlos to the City of London and the London Lightning family."

"Carlos has the unique ability that few other coaches possess today, and that is to bring out the athlete's passion and focus. His communication skills allow him to individualize and relay the proper information in a way that produces maximum effort and results. As a former NBA player and current NBA head coach, I have a tremendous amount of pride and passion for the game of basketball. I like to surround myself with people that are on the same page, and Carlos and I share those same qualities."

Brian Shaw

Head Coach of the Denver Nuggets

"Carlos is very well respected by the Pacers and Fever coaches, basketball operations staff and others throughout the Pacers organization. His knowledge of the game as both coach and a player development specialist is very impressive and was evident the first day he joined the Pacers family. I have personally observed Carlos' work with our NBA and WNBA players over multiple years and have always walked away with a sense of confidence knowing he was getting the most out of players. Carlos displays a rare ability to relate to young athletes, has a very high basketball IQ and is a great teacher of the game. His talent in teaching fundamentals and developing player's skills is what I admire most."

Donnie Walsh

Executive Consultant for the Indiana Pacers

Former President of Basketball Operations for the New York Knicks & Indiana Pacers

"Carlos is an excellent coach with a long standing history of training NBA and WNBA players. The resources and experience Coach Knox possesses will be a tremendous asset to the Lightning franchise."
