Modesto Nuts News Release

San Bernardino, CA. - Despite a dominant performance from Ryan Carpenter, the Nuts lost a dramatic 2-1 game in walk-off fashion against the 66ers on Wednesday night at San Manuel Stadium.

After Ryan Carpenter tossed eight innings for the Nuts (8-18; 32-64) and struck out a season-high-tying eight batters, the 66ers (9-17; 34-62) stole the win away in the bottom of the ninth.

Dennis Raben crushed a walk-off solo home run against John Keck (L, 1-3) in the bottom of the ninth.

The Nuts held a brief lead in the top of the seventh when Francisco Sosa clubbed a solo home run to left against 66ers starter Dan Tobik. Tobik went seven innings and allowed only the one run in the seventh while striking out six and walking just one.

The 66ers had tied the game in the bottom of the eighth against Carpenter when Chad Hinshaw ripped a lead-off triple in front of Mark Shannon's sac fly. Carpenter went on to strand two go-ahead runs on base when he won a 12-pitch, two-out battle against Jose Rondon by inducing an inning-ending groundout.

Kurt Spomer (W, 3-2) worked around a single in a scoreless top of the ninth.

The middle affair of the three-game set against the 66ers will pit Devin Burke of the Nuts against Tyler DeLoach of the 66ers. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
