Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis. - The Green Bay Bullfrogs finished their eight-game home stand with the final game of their two-game series against the Madison Mallards on Wednesday. With the game tied at three, Pete Alonso (Florida) hit a two-run home run that was the deciding factor of the game, as the Mallards beat the Bullfrogs on Wednesday by a score of 6-3.
Alonso's home run in the seventh inning was his ninth of the year. His nine home runs are tied for the second most in the Northwoods League this season.
The Mallards bullpen then shut down the Bullfrogs the rest of the way. Tim Black (Central Michigan) threw a perfect ninth inning to pick up his NWL leading fifteenth save of the season.
Nathan Hoffman (Madison College) threw one inning of relief, giving up no hits and no runs to earn the win for Madison on Wednesday.
Roberto Baroniel (Nova Southeastern) took the loss for Green Bay. Baroniel threw seven innings and gave up six runs (five earned) on twelve hits to the Mallards.
Before Madison took a 5-3 lead, Green Bay scored the first run of the game in the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead. Ryan Howell (Chabot) hit his seventh home of the run of the season to give the Bullfrogs their first run. It was Howell's second home run in the past three games.
Madison then scored three straight runs to take a 3-1 lead after four innings of play. In the third inning, Alonso had his first RBI of the night on a single that tied the game at one.
In the fourth inning, Tyler Allen (Virginia) and Tony Butler (Virginia) recorded back-to-back RBI hits that gave the Mallards their first lead of the game at 3-1.
The Bullfrogs then came back and tied the game at three in the fifth inning. Matthew de la Rosa (Lenoir-Rhyne) hit the second home run of the night for the Bullfrogs, a two-run shot, to tie the game at three. It was de la Rosa's first home run of the season and the final two runs of the night for the Bullfrogs.
Green Bay will now head down to Mequon, Wisconsin for a two-game series against the Lakeshore Chinooks on Thursday and Friday. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from Kapco Park.
