Anchors Split Double Header
July 16, 2014 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Alexandria Blue Anchors News Release
Alexandria, Minn. - It was a long night at the "Shipyard" as the Blue Anchors split a double header with the La Crosse Loggers that spanned seventeen innings.
In game one the Anchors took the lead and never looked back. A home run by Aaron Gretz got the scoring started in the third. Jordan Lee then followed that up with his fifth home run of the season in the sixth. The pitching staff would get a quality start from Blake Bass who has been very good in his last two starts. On Tuesday he allowed no runs on seven hits while striking out two.
The field got reset and the two teams were scheduled to play seven more, seven innings would not be enough as the ballgame ended in the tenth. Alexandria would jump out to a quick 3-0 in the first, and would add three more in the fourth. The Loggers would find a way to battle back against the Alexandria bullpen. They would score runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to tie the game at seven apiece. The teams would play three innings of scoreless baseball until the tenth when La Crosse would get an RBI from Brandon Wessel to take the lead 8-7.
Notes: The Blue Anchors next game home game is Wednesday July 16th. It is Summertime St. Patty's day presented by Beverage Wholesalers and Bennigans. The first 100 fans 21+ will receive a commemorative mug. The Anchors will be wearing green jerseys to be auctioned off.
