Late Rally Falls Short on Sunday

The SeaWolves dropped their second straight game to the Binghamton Mets, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon at Jerry Uht Park.

The SeaWolves struck for a run in the first inning against Mets starter Hansel Robles when Marcus Lemon belted one-out, solo home run to right for a 1-0 lead.

The Mets responded in the third against Erie starter Warwick Saupold. Kyle Johnson doubled and moved to third on a Brandon Nimmo single. Johnson scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Dilson Herrera, tying the game. Herrera later scored on Dustin Lawley knock for a 2-1 Mets edge.

Erie tied the game in the last of the fourth. Corey Jones led off and singled to extend his hit streak to a season-best 11 straight games. Dean Green followed with a knock, moving Jones to third and he scored on a Francisco Martinez hit, tying the game.

Erie regained the lead in the sixth. Jones led off with a walk, moved to second on a an error and scored on an error for a 4-3 lead.

The big blast came from the Mets in the seventh against reliever Guido Knudson. Nimmo led off with an infield single to put the tying run on. Herrera followed with an opposite-field home run, giving the Mets the lead at 5-4.

Erie loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth against Mets reliever Cody Satterwhite. Daniel Fields walked, Devon Travis singled and Ramon Cabrera walked, putting the winning run in scoring position. Jones followed but was robbed of a game-winning hit by the shortstop T.J. Rivera, ending the game.

Knudson (0-4) took the loss allowing two runs on three hits with no walks and two strikeouts in three innings.

Saupold took the no-decision allowing three runs, one earned, on six hits with four walks and three strikeouts in six innings.
