Vermont Mountaineers News Release

North Adams, Massachusetts - The Vermont Mountaineers defeated the North Adams SteepleCats 5-1 in New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) action on Tuesday night. With the win, the Mountaineers improve to a Northern Division-leading 18-10 on summer.

Vermont struck the ball well and was aggressive on the basepaths, but North Adams miscues in the field led to four of the five Mountaineers runs.

Chandler Brock (Alabama-Huntsville) got Vermont on the board in the first, when he led off the game with a line drive single to left field. Brock stole second and moved to third on a ground out by Jack Parenty (Stony Brook). Brock scored on a passed ball two batters later to give Vermont a 1-0 lead.

The Mountaineers added two more runs in the third. Brock doubled to lead off the inning. Parenty smacked an RBI single to right to score Brock and open up a 2-0 lead. Parenty stole second and scored from there on a wild pitch by SteepleCats starter Ed Voyles (Florida State). This made the score 3-0 Vermont.

The Mountaineers scored their final two runs of the game on errors, when Brock scored his third run of the game in the seventh and Trey Amburgey (St. Petersburg) crossed home in the eighth to give Vermont a 5-0 edge.

The lone SteepleCats run of the game came in the bottom of the eighth, when Zach Lucas (Louisville) cranked a solo homerun to left field off Vermont reliever Dalton Goss (Alabama-Huntsville).

Dan Koger (Alabama-Huntsville) was phenomenal. He hurled seven scoreless innings to move to 3-0 on the summer. Koger allowed no runs on five hits and two walks. He struck out seven.

Voyles took the loss, his first of the season, to fall to 2-1. Voyles lasted four innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks. He struck out three.

The Mountaineers return to action on Wednesday evening, when they host the New Bedford Bay Sox for a North-South contest at Recreation Field. Capitol Plaza sponsors Christmas in July night at the ballpark. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The game can be heard locally on CBS Sports 1240 WSKI and online at thevermontmountaineers.com.
