AMARILLO, TX - A member of the 2013 Amarillo Bulls National Championship team called his experience at the Detroit Red Wings future's camp amazing and thinks it will help his 2nd season in the NCAA at Merrimack College this fall.

Forward Hampus Gustafsson along with approximately 40 other players recently took part in the National Hockey League camp that took place in Traverse City, Michigan located Northwest of Detroit. The players were put through workouts by Jeff Blashill, Head Coach of the Red Wing's affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.

"It was a really nice experience and I learned quite a lot," Gustafsson said. "The players were on the ice every day and it was quite difficult. Off the ice we learned different workout circuits. It was tough but at the same time it was also fun, we did some team building stuff like curling, watched fireworks and took a cooking class to teach us how to cook healthy meals."

Gustafsson recently completed his first season at Merrimack College where he notched four goals and six assists for 10 points in 33 games. He said he was asked to attend the future's camp by his coach Mark Dennehy who spoke to Red Wings Assistant General Manager Ryan Martin about him.

Gustafsson is resting in Michigan before heading over the Sweden to see family. He said the best part of his freshman year was playing a long side is brother, John.

"We hadn't played together in about five years," he commented. "Being reunited with him was something special. We had never been on the same team so it was neat to be around him every day and to play on the same line."

Gustafsson said the toughest part of the transition from Junior To College is the speed of the game.

"Everything is bigger, faster and stronger," he said. "It takes a little bit to get use to. You have to make your decision with the puck that much quicker."

The Red Wings are not only popular in the state of Michigan but in Gustafsson's home country of Sweden. Detroit has no less than seven Swedes on its active roster.

"All Swedes want to play either for Detroit or for the Swedish National Team," he said. "It's pretty amazing to see the number of people from my country on the roster. It also makes it a little bit easier because you know they will take care of you."

Hampus Gustafsson is one of more than 45 Bulls players who have secured an NCAA College Commitment. He continues a strong trend of Bulls' players advancing to the next level.
