Shibuya Deals, Miracle Sweep Blue Jays at the Bill

FORT MYERS, Fla. (July 14, 2014) - The Fort Myers Miracle completed a four-game sweep of the Dunedin Blue Jays with an 8-2 win on Monday night at Hammond Stadium.

Trailing 1-0 after the top of the inning, the Miracle offense jumped on Dunedin starter Ben White for six runs on seven hits in the first. Byron Buxton led off with a single up the middle and advanced to third on a base hit into right center by Jorge Polanco. After Danny Santana flew out, Dalton Hicks ripped a first pitch past first baseman L.B. Dantzler and into right field to score Buxton. Travis Harrison then followed with a RBI single into right to bring in Polanco, 2-1.

With two on, Mike Gonzales lashed a first pitch from White (4-6) into the gap in right center field to drive in another two runs, 4-1. Niko Goodrum sliced another double into left to plate Gonzales. After Stuart Turner fly out to left, Aderling Mejia pulled a 1-0 double down the first base line and Goodrum trotted home for the sixth Miracle run.

In the second, White retired the first two outs, but allowed a double to Hicks. Harrison then laced a single into left field to bring in Hicks and give the Miracle a 7-1 advantage.

After giving up a RBI base hit to Dwight Smith, Jr. in the first, Tim Shibuya settled into the game to register a quality start for the Miracle. Over six innings, Shibuya (6-3) allowed just one run on six hits and induced two double plays.

The Blue Jays and Miracle traded runs in the seventh inning. Jorge Saez knocked in a run with a double off the wall in left field off Miracle reliever Alex Wimmers. Fort Myers answered with a two-out, RBI single by Mike Gonzales off Blue Jays reliever Justin Jackson, 8-2.

Gonzales finished 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Brandon Peterson pitched a scoreless eighth inning and Tyler Jones tossed the ninth to finish the game.

The Miracle (56-36, 15-8) are off on Tuesday, but return to action on the road at Jackie Robinson Park on Wednesday against the Daytona Cubs. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. Fans can listen to the play-by-play action with the "Voice of the Miracle" Brice Zimmerman. The Head Quarters pregame show begins at 6:40 p.m.
