Machine to Host First Zero-Waste Day in MLL History

July 14, 2014 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Ohio Machine News Release

COLUMBUS, OHIO (July14, 2014) - The Ohio Machine will attempt the first ever zero-waste lacrosse game in Major League Lacrosse on Saturday, July 19 when the Machine faces the Charlotte Hounds at 7 p.m. at Selby Stadium. The day's focus will also be on the inaugural Ohio Machine Team Esteem tournament presented by Donatos.

The growth of girls lacrosse in the United States has nearly matched the growth of the game on the boys side, according to a report published by US Lacrosse in April. The Machine's Team Esteem tournament presented by Donatos aims to address the need for more youth girls lacrosse tournaments in the Midwest. The inaugural tournament features six teams from across Ohio.

In addition to the tournament, the Cincy Queens and Cap City post-collegiate women's club teams will be on hand throughout the day to demonstrate teamwork and leadership before playing an exhibition game prior to the Machine taking on the Hounds at 7pm.

Throughout the tournament and including the Machine's game against the Hounds, the goal is for 90 percent of the waste from the events to be recycled or composted. Such an effort requires the support and contributions from the entire community. Companies involved in helping the Machine achieve a zero waste event are Big Green Head, Friction Metals, Ohio's By-Product Synergy Group and Price Farms.
