HarbourCats Announce Roster Moves

July 14, 2014 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release

The Victoria HarbourCats will be without three players for the upcoming series in Bellingham against the league-leading Bells.

Right-handed pitcher Alex Garcia (1-2, 3.14 ERA, 11 strikeouts/12 walks in 14.1 innings pitched) has returned home to California due to family reasons. Garcia will attend UC-Santa Barbara in the fall after a stellar high school career.

Outfielder Devin Carter is also returning home to Temecula, California, for academic reasons. Carter is moving schools from Pepperdine (NCAA D1) to a new school this fall, and has to complete paperwork as he goes through that process. Carter batted .121 in 12 games (4-33, two RBIs) for the HarbourCats.

"The HarbourCats want to thank these players for their contributions and their commitment, and it was nice to hear them say outstanding things about our operations and our community as they headed home," said General Manager Jim Swanson. "We strive to provide players with the best experience in our league in terms of treatment and atmosphere, as we remain committed to bringing a championship-calibre team to Victoria every season."

In addition, infielder Noah Cummings will not be on this trip to play Bellingham (games Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday), due to a hand injury. Cummings is hitting .175 (7-40) with three RBIs in 13 games.

The HarbourCats, who lead the league in attendance with an average of 1,491 per game, sit second in the West Division with a 13-17 record, 10.5 games back of the Bells, who are 23-6. The HarbourCats are 4.5 games out of the wild card playoff spot with 24 games remaining.

ALL-STAR TEAM -- Watch for an announcement Tuesday about the West Coast League all-star teams for the game July 21 in Klamath Falls, Oregon.

NEXT HOME GAMES -- The HarbourCats are home to the Klamath Falls Gems this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, all 7:11pm starts at Sports Traders Diamond.
