Indians Close out Sweep of Dust Devils

July 14, 2014 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release

The Tri-City Dust Devils' bats were cold Sunday night as they dropped the final game of the three game series against the Spokane Indians by a final score of 14-1 at Gesa Stadium. Tri-City (11-19) had just two hits in the loss.

There was a scary moment early in the game Sunday night. In the first inning Dust Devils starter Ryan Warner (1-3) was hit in the head by a line drive from Indians (22-8) third baseman Jose Trevino. Warner went down after the hit, but he remained in the game and faced three more batters before ending his outing. Warner finished the night after 2/3 of an inning, allowing two runs on two hits, two walks and a strikeout. He was charged with the loss for the Dust Devils.

Center fielder Marcos Derkes scored the Dust Devils' lone run. Derkes scored in each game of the series against Spokane and crossed the plate a total of five times in that span.

Indians starter Andrew Barrett (2-0) pitched six fantastic innings and got the win. Barrett allowed just one run on two hits and a walk while striking out three hitters.

Left fielder Eduard Pinto went 5-for-6 and scored four runs for Spokane. Center fielder Zach Cone was 1-for-3 with a homer, three RBIs and drew three walks on the night.

The Dust Devils will head on the road Monday to start a five game series with the Hillsboro Hops. Tri-City returns to Gesa Stadium on Saturday, July 19th, to start a three game set against the Vancouver Canadians. There will be a post-game fireworks show presented by HiLine Engineering and Fabrication. Great seats for Saturday's game are still available. Tickets can be purchased by visiting dustdevilsbaseball.com or by calling (509) 544-8789.
