Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, OR - After a grueling trip home from a three game series in British Columbia, the Medford Rogues were unable to fight off fatigue as they fell to the visiting Yakima Valley Pippins 4-3. With the loss, the Rogues are now sitting in league play with a 17-14 record and a game behind second place Bend Elks. Corvallis Knights lead the Southern Division with a 21-12 record and are three games ahead of the Rogues.

Both teams displayed solid defense as the game remained scoreless for the first four innings. Yakima was the first to get on the scoreboard with a run at the top of the fifth. The Rogues rallied through Jeremy Goldenetz who scored in the bottom of the sixth before Donald Glover and Joe Chavez each came in at the bottom of the seventh, putting the Rogues up 3-1.

With only three outs standing in the way of victory, Yakima rallied in the top of the ninth to score three runs and go up 4-3. The Rogues were unable to respond as relief pitcher Nick Kern made quick work of three Rogues' batters to preserve the win.

On defense, Brandon Erickson started on the mound for the Rogues and pitched seven innings for three hits, one run, two balls, four strikeouts, and now holds a 3.86 ERA for the season. Ivan Dilda and Shane Quarterley came on in relief with Dilda pitching for one hit and one run while Quarterley (0-4) gave up two hits for two runs in taking the loss.

On offense, Christian Cox and Jeremy Goldenetz led the Rogues in at bat to hits ratio. Cox had four at bats for two hits for a season batting average of .304. Goldenetz had two at bats for two hits, one run, and improves his season batting average .214. Glover also had a solid game for three at bats for one hit, one run and a season batting average of .259.

Pippins reliever Conner Lau (1-1) picked up the win, pitching the eighth inning, while Kern picked up his fourth save on the season.

The Rogues face the Yakima Pippins again tomorrow night in the second game of three at Harry and David Field with game time set for 6:35 p.m.
