Senators Fall Short in Extra Inning Slugfest

July 11, 2014 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators and the Altoona Curve combined for 25 runs on 34 hits on Friday night, but the Curve came out on top by the score of 13-12 in front of large crowd of 6,769 fans at Metro Bank Park.

Harrisburg's first three runs came after the Senators loaded the bases in the first inning, only for Ricky Hague (2-for-6, two doubles, four RBI) to clear them with a double off the left field fence. The Senators added four more in the third as Kevin Keyes (2-for-4, RBI, three runs), Jason Martinson and Hague hit back-to-back-to-back RBI doubles. Quincy Latimore followed later in the inning with a pinch-hit RBI single to tie the game at 7-7 after three innings. Self helped his own cause in the fifth by singling in Brian Jeroloman, who doubled earlier in the frame. Matt Skole also had a two-bagger for Harrisburg who had a season-high six doubles. The Senators were able to come closer to Altoona in the eighth as Jose Lozada scampered home from third while Caleb Ramsey put himself in a rundown between first and second base. Then in the ninth, the Senators were able to tie the game with two unearned runs as Lozada (2-for-3) picked up an RBI single and Jeroloman then scored on an error. However, the Senators left the bases loaded in the inning to force extras. Jeroloman kept the game going with a game-tying RBI single in the bottom of the tenth that scored Keyes from second base.

Brian Dupra pitched the first three innings for the Senators, allowing seven runs on eight hits and three walks. Paul Demny was summoned to relieve Dupra and allowed a solo home run to Drew Maggi to begin the fourth inning. Demny picked up an out but had to leave the game after being struck by a line drive off the bat of Stetson Allie. Demny was able to walk off under his own power. Derek Self pitched the next 2.2 innings, in which Altoona scored two runs on two solo home runs. Tyler Herron pitched the remainder of the night, surrendering just one run in three innings while striking out five Altoona hitters, tying a Senators season-high by a reliever. Altoona scored in the top of the tenth as the Senators' Robert Benincasa allowed a solo home run to Altoona's Alen Hanson. Benincasa allowed another solo long ball to Jarek Cunningham in the 11th, the sixth solo home run of the night by Altoona, which proved to be the game-winning run.

Harrisburg and Altoona will play a doubleheader tomorrow on City Island beginning at 6:00. John Simms and Paolo Espino are the scheduled starters for the Sens.
