Birmingham Barons News Release

Birmingham, AL - For the first time in nearly a month, Rangel Ravelo was held hitless as the Barons dropped game two of their five game series against the Jackson Generals by a score of 6-2 at Generals Park.

Jared Mitchell put the Barons ahead immediately with a leadoff home run on the first pitch of the game against starter Stephen Landazuri. It was the start of a huge night for Mitchell who accounted for three of the team's five hits including a fair of solo home runs.

The Generals used two long balls of their own to take a 4-1 lead in the third inning. Patrick Kivlehan started the scoring with a two-run home run against starter Nick McCully (4-8, 5.82). Dario Pizzano followed a batter later with a solo shot, his sixth of the season. McCully allowed four runs on eight hits over 4.0 IP on the evening.

Mitchell's second home run of the night came in the top of the fourth, cutting the Jackson lead to 4-2. It marked Mitchell's second multi-homer game of the season and his seventh long ball since rejoining the Barons after the All-Star Break on June 19.

However, the story of the game was Ravelo who finished without a hit for the first time since June 8th against Jackson, going 0-for-4. The 26-game streak was the longest in MinorLeague Baseball this season and ranked third in Barons history. Over the course of the streak, Ravelo hit .379 (39-for-103) with two home runs, 11 doubles, 18 runs scored and 17 RBI.

With the loss, the Barons fell to 41-50 and 12-9 in the second half while the Generals improved to 39-42 and 8-14 in the second half. The Barons will look to rebound tomorrow night as RHP Chris Beck (4-7, 3.59) takes the hill against RHP Victor Sanchez (4.11). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM CDT.
