Modesto Nuts News Release
Stockton, CA. - Renato Nunez smashed a grand slam in the first inning which sent the Nuts to a 7-2 loss against the Ports on Thursday night at Banner Island Ballpark.
With the Nuts (5-16, 28-62) trying to avoid a three-game series sweep against the Ports (16-5, 53-38), Rosell Herrera clubbed a solo home run on the first pitch. Chris O'Dowd would later double in the inning and score on an error by Ports first baseman Matt Olson. That was all the offense could muster against Ports starter Josh Bowman (W, 2-6) who went six innings and struck out five while walking one.
In the bottom of the first, the Ports responded quickly against Nuts starter Devin Burke (L, 5-7). The first three base runners reached in front of Renato Nunez who tattooed a grand slam, his second in a week, to post a four spot in the first.
Burke finished after four innings and seven hits while striking out four and walking three.
The Nuts return home for a four-game series against the Blaze. The Nuts will have Jayson Aquino on the mound against Wandy Peralta. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
