'Hawks Erase Eight Run Deficit in Comeback Win

LANCASTER, Calif. - Chan Moon's five hits led the way as the JetHawks erased an eight run deficit to beat the Inland Empire 66ers, 15-12, on Wednesday night at The Hangar.
Lancaster's biggest comeback began in with Conrad Gregor's grand slam in the bottom of the third. Inland Empire (31-59) put up five runs in the second inning and three in the third to take an 8-0 lead.
JetHawks (51-39) starter Brian Holmes allowed eight runs on eighth hits through 2 2/3 innings before Patrick Christensen relieved him and ended the third.
Gregor's grand slam, his eighth home run of the seasn, cut the lead to 8-4.
The two clubs each scored runs n the fourth inning and the 66ers added another in the sixth to go ahead 10-5.
Moon hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning to make it a two run game. Each of Moon's three home runs with Lancaster this season have been three-run shots.
Danry Vasquez followed Moon's homer with a single and scored on a Teoscar Hernandez double. Hernandez was thrown out trying to stretch the hit to a triple and the inning ended with Lancaster down, 10-9.
The 66ers scored two runs in the eighth inning off Jamaine Cotton (1-1) to extend their lead to three but the JetHawks offense answered in the bottom of the eighth.
Lancaster sent 12 batters to the plate in the eighth and scored six runs on six hits. Rio Ruiz led off with a double and Gregor was hit by a pitch before Dan Gulbransen tied the game with a three-run home run. Gulbransen had tied a game against Inland Empire with a grand slam back in May.
Kurt Spomer (2-2) gave up the Gulbransen homer and eventually suffered the loss. He walked Jack Mayfield and gave up a single to Tanner Mathis to set the stage for Moon's game-winning hit.
Moon lined a base-hit to right field to chase Spomer and put Lancaster up 13-12. It was Moon's fifth hit of the night. Vasquez and Hernandez followed with RBIs to give the JetHawks some insurance.
Lancaster sends Mark Appel to the mound on Thursday night at The Hangar as they look for a series victory. Appel will be opposed by Dan Tobik. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. on Throw 'Em Back Thursday. Beers, hot dogs, nachos and sodas will be just $2 at the concession stands.
