FC Kansas City Acquires 3rd Round Draft Pick

PRARIE VILLAGE, KS (July 9, 2014) -FC Kansas City has acquired a draft pick in the third round of the 2015 National Women's Soccer League College Draft. The pick comes from a trade with the Houston Dash, who received forward Melissa Henderson as part of the deal.

Henderson joined FC Kansas City as a discovery player but now returns to her home state of Texas. The Notre Dame product caught the coaching staff's attention while playing with the Boston Breakers in the WPS Elite League in 2012. Henderson appeared in 22 matches and started 16 in her time with the Blues. A strategic player, Henderson tallied 14 shots over two seasons. She scored her first NWSL goal in the 2013 playoff match against Portland Thorns FC.

The New Ms. Williams

In other FC Kansas City news, Nia Williams has taken a teaching job in the Kansas City area. The Roeland Park, Kan. defender will now be a reserve player for the Blues. Williams will still train with the team and play an important role.

"At the beginning of May an opening came up, I decided to apply for the job. This was one of the hardest decisions I've made." Williams said on her decision. "I was torn because I was going to be leaving one of my dreams for another. I am truly grateful that I was given the opportunity to play for the city I grew up in."

Williams appeared in 9 matches throughout her time with FC Kansas City and started in 4. She coaches for the FC Kansas City youth club team and helps with camps throughout the summer. She completed her degree in education at Missouri State University in May.
