Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Neftali Soto smacked a three-run homer and Rey Navarro hit a tie-breaking two-run double to lift the Louisville Bats past the Toledo Mud Hens 6-5 on Monday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

Erasing a 1-0 deficit that Toledo earned in the top of the first inning, Louisville exploded for four runs in the bottom of the third after an RBI single from Thomas Neal and a three-run blast from Soto. Soto extended his hitting streak to eight games, a span that includes a .387 batting average (12-for-31), five runs and eight runs batted in.

After a rain delay that lasted an hour and five minutes, the Mud Hens battled back to tie the game at 4-4 in the top of the fourth inning.

The tie held until the bottom of the seventh inning when Navarro hit a two-run double to give the Bats the 6-4 lead. Navarro has been on fire since being called up from Pensacola on June 18. He went 2-for-4 in the game and extended his hitting streak to 15 games, a season high for all Louisville players.

Chien-Ming Wang made his 18th appearance of the season but did not factor into the decision. He pitched five and two-thirds innings while allowing four runs on seven hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Louisville right-hander Curtis Partch was credited with the win, pitching one inning and allowing only a hit with no walks or strikeouts.

Right-handed closer Justin Freeman earned his fifth save of the season, pitching an inning and allowing a run on two hits with a walk. Freeman was called up from Pensacola on June 16th and assumed the role of closer after Jose Diaz was promoted to Cincinnati.

The Bats resume play tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. against the Mud Hens. A Louisville pitcher to be determined will face right-handed pitcher Derek Hankins (4-9, 5.93) at Louisville Slugger Field.
